Anime Club will run on Tuesday from 2:30-4:30pm on the big screen in Teen Zone, but starting before Teen Zone begins and ending after.

Voted on donated CDs to add to the YA collection.

Perused catalogs to recommend CDs and DVDs for purchase

Opened rug. We like it.

Talked about summer programs planned and summer reading for teens! (For more info check the front desk or the website.)

Visited the YA area with a rope square the size of our rug to brainstorm its future location. Most members either think it should be in the middle(ish) of the room or don’t care where it goes. It will not be used as a curtain.

Discussed potential for walling-off the YA area. We will talk more about this as plans get more concrete.

Meeting Minutes for June 1st, 2009

Ice Breaker: Two Truths and a Lie

Field trip to see the new Children's Program Room.
Ideas for using the leftover paint:
- paint the bathrooms
- paint the community room.
- would they make a nice sea foam green if combined?
- NOT for YA area, we want something brighter

Looked at furniture AGAIN.
- wavy carpet is getting top votes, blue or green are the top two colors.
- the floor-chairs look "horrible"
- booths are cool
- stools and cafe tables are cool
- the egg chairs are cool

Played Rock Band and Guitar Hero to help us with the following questions:

Guitar Hero World Tour VS. Rock Band 2: Which would be better for our August tournament?
Verdict: Leslianne will set up an election online and at the front desk.

How to determine winners?

- percents?
- bonus for difficulty?
(please comment if you have an idea, since we didn't come to any decision.)

--> We are going to have a trial Rock band/GH World Tour tournament in July to try out whatever we decide on. We'll set a date soon, and members should invite their friends.

Our Bylaws

The proposed Bellingham Public Library YAAB bylaws. Items in italics have yet to be voted into effect.

The Bellingham YAAB will consist of approximately three to twenty members.
Membership will be made up of only 5th though 12th grade students, with exceptions being made for super-genii (i.e. high-school graduates under 18 years of age) who wish to be included.
Meetings will be held on the first Monday of every month at the Bellingham Public Library from 4:30pm to 6pm.
If a member will not be able to attend, he or she must let Leslianne know by leaving a message at the library or by emailing her or posting on the blog. If he or she does not leave a message before the meeting which they must miss, their absence may count as unexcused.
A member may be asked to leave the YAAB if he or she has three unexcused absences in a year. An unexcused absence may be made up by organizing a program at the library or writing a review. A member who misses six meetings in a year (excused or unexcused) may find his or her membership up for review by the YAAB board.
If a member violates the library behavior policy resulting in being asked to leave the library, either the YAAB board or the Youth Services Librarian and Young Adults Librarian will determine appropriate consequences. The member may choose which group (YAAB or the two librarians) determines appropriate consequences. If the member does not indicate a preference, the YA Librarian will choose for him/her.
If a member is asked to leave the YAAB, they may not reapply for six months.
To join the YAAB, a qualified applicant must submit an application and attend one YAAB meeting as a guest.
If an applicant is rejected they my not reapply for six months.
Every four months the YAAB will elect a Keeper of the Minutes. That KM will serve for four months and will keep notes during each meeting to be posted on the blog. The KM will also be in charge of notifying accepted applicants of their membership in YAAB. The KM will not be required to inform rejected applicants of such. A KM may not serve for more than two four-month terms in a row.
To discuss a change in the bylaws, a member must propose the change and be "seconded" by two other members. After a discussion the YAAB will vote on the change.
Each member of the YAAB has a vote. The YA Librarian and the Youth Services Librarian each have one vote.
At least 50% of the current members of YAAB must be present at a meeting in order for a vote to be held. This bylaw may be waived by either the YAAB president and a second or by the YA librarian. Not all members must vote.
Voting for new members is always done "blind" (with no eyes open other than those of the vote-counter.)

Leslianne can no longer make it to Tuesday Meetings so we will be changing our regular meeting dates. GO VOTE for the new day and time! -->
We are planning a Banned Books YAAB meet to disguise our books and decorate the library for Banned Books week, September 28th - October 4th. Vote for the date of that decorating meet! -->
Our YAAB needs bylaws. (Bylaws are a set of rules for organizations.) I'll be posting a series of polls to help you all start thinking about what we want included our YAAB's bylaws.
Teen Zone ID cards... mug shots?
What is causing the high rate or absenteeism? Is it just forgetfulness, or is everyone very busy? In case it is just forgetfulness, Leslianne will start sending out postcard and email reminders about upcoming YAAB meetings and events.

FYI: An absence counts as unexcused it isn't an emergency and if you don't call to let Leslianne know you can't make it BEFORE the meeting. 3 unexcused absences puts a member on probation and puts their membership up for review by the board.
